How to Subsitute Molasses in Germany

Print This Post Print This Post Email This Post Email This Post

Not everyone has access to US products in Germany or Europe in general, some things are very specific and are not really sold in Germany. Here are some workarounds.

Molasses – Melasse

It’s a dark honey like sugar syrup (Zuckersirup, nicht Zuckerruebensirup). Melasse is one of the ingredients you can look for while you are in other EU countries like France or Austria (vacation anyone?)
You can use it to make your own brown sugar (real brown sugar, not “brauner Rohrzucker”).  You can buy it online at the reformhaus store.

Or you can use the not 100% equivalent, but widely available Zuckerruebensirup you can get in most every supermarket.
